Clio Duo; viola/recorder & piano
FRIDAY 8 AUG 1:10 PM
Tickets Although tickets are free, we kindly ask that you still book a ticket. A retiring collection will be taken at the end of the concert for those who wish to donate.
Formed at the Royal Academy of Music in 2023, Clio Duo is a unique ensemble performing on viola, recorder, and piano. Specialising in 20th-century British repertoire, the duo enjoys exploring the duality between works composed for recorder and piano, and those for viola and piano, often by the same composers of the era. This approach allows them to highlight both the contrasts and connections within a single composer’s output, offering fresh perspectives on familiar and lesser-known works alike.
Both musicians are recipients of the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ awards, which granted them places on the prestigious Young Artists’ Programme. As part of this programme, they benefit from mentoring, performance opportunities, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to musical education and outreach.
Through the WCOM, they regularly deliver workshops to primary school children across London. These sessions introduce young audiences to classical music in creative, engaging ways and form an important part of the duo’s artistic identity.
Clio Duo was recently awarded the Society of Recorder Players’ Walter Bergmann Fund Award, which supported a concert tour in Cornwall earlier this year. The tour featured a series of recitals that were warmly received and helped further raise the profile of their distinctive repertoire.
