Toby Hughes is a prominent double bassist, known for his rich and diverse career as one of the UK's leading double bass soloists. Born in 1992, Toby's musical journey began at a young age, leading him to study at the combined universities of Lausanne, Fribourg, and Sion under Professor Božo Paradžik. He earned numerous accolades, including the 'Future Talent' Coombs Scholarship and the Royal Philharmonic Society's 'Julius Isserlis Scholarship.' Toby’s career includes significant competition wins, such as 'Young Musician of the Year' and first prizes at the Bromsgrove and Tunbridge Wells competitions. A frequent performer with London's 12 Ensemble, Northern Ballet, and the London Symphony Orchestra, Toby has appeared at renowned venues like Wigmore Hall and St-Martin-in-the-Fields. We are thrilled to welcome Toby back to the Elmore Festival this year!
Benjamin Powell is a leading British pianist renowned for his intelligent interpretations and deep commitment to contemporary music. Since winning the British Contemporary Piano Competition in 2010, he has performed across the UK and Europe at venues including Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and IRCAM in Paris. In 2014, he became pianist for the acclaimed ensemble Psappha, and in 2022, its Artistic Director. Benjamin has participated in landmark performances such as the complete solo piano works of Helmut Lachenmann at the Aldeburgh Festival.
Braimah Kanneh-Mason is a dynamic violinist who performs widely across the UK, Europe, the USA and Australia. A regular concerto soloist, he has appeared with the London Philharmonic and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras, among others. A passionate chamber musician, he is a member of the Kanneh-Mason Piano Trio, Festival Academy Budapest Ensemble, and Kaleidoscope Collective, and has performed at venues including Wigmore Hall, the Barbican, and the Verbier Festival. In 2024 he appeared twice at the BBC Proms with his brother Sheku and Brazilian guitarist Plínio Fernandes. He is an advocate for equality in music education and a Cultural Ambassador for Antigua and Barbuda. Braimah studied at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest and the Royal Academy of Music, and plays a Matteo Goffriller violin, generously loaned through Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.
